Berkey is excited to announce the release of our new economical replacement filters for use in Berkey® water systems. These new filters are being offered in lieu of Black Berkey® Elements not being available. As you are well aware, Black Berkey® replacement filter sets (BB9-2®) have not been available since late in 2023 due to the stop order placed on Berkey International by the EPA, which prevented the further manufacture of Black Berkey® Elements.
As of Nov 2025, we are still engaged in the lawsuit against the EPA regarding the original Black Berkey Element. We are also in active communication with the new EPA leadership at the highest levels and are hopeful that we can come to an agreement soon to have the stop production order terminated.
Accordingly, we went back to the drawing board to design a new replacement filter that is both high quality and economically priced to provide a reliable replacement filter for use in Berkey® water systems.
Berkey (NMCL) works with various formulators and labs in developing powerful filters that Berkey customers can both rely upon and trust. Berkey began working on a new formulation with a longtime partner to develop a more economical, yet powerful formulation designed to address a wide range of contaminants affecting municipal water supplies.
The filter we developed is the Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Element, which is Certified by NSF International* for NSF/ANSI Standards 42 and 372, and tested by independent third-party labs to remove or reduce a broad array (200+) of typical waterborne contaminants.

Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements Address a Broad Range of Typical Contaminants Found in U.S. and Global Municipal Water Supplies
Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements have been tested by independent third-party labs to remove or reduce a broad array of typical waterborne contaminants found in U.S. and global municipal water supplies, including: perfluorinated “forever chemicals” (PFAS, PFOA & PFOS), synthetic organic compounds—industrial and agricultural chemicals (SOCs), heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, volatile organic contaminants (VOCs), other waterborne contaminants, bad odors and tastes and more. Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements do not remove essential healthy minerals like magnesium and calcium in the water, and do not alter the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). Therefore, the TDS levels remain unchanged.
As of Nov 7th, 2025. Our NSF certification is pending as we are still waiting for National Sanitation foundation to update the listing with our official name of the Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements and part number.
Phoenix Gravity New Millennium Edition™ Filter Elements are designed to fit all Berkey® water systems, including Go Berkey® Kit, Travel Berkey®, Berkey Light®, Big Berkey®, Royal Berkey®, Imperial Berkey®, and Crown Berkey™ systems, plus most other brands of gravity-fed water filter systems.
